How do I find out if my insurance covers LAP-BAND?
When you call our office to schedule an appointment with Dr. Felts, we will gather your insurance information and submit it for verification of benefits.
How long does this process take?
It takes approximately 48 hours for us to determine if benefits are available and find out what your insurance requirements are, as this is different for each policy. Our office staff will call you and review this information with you once it is obtained.
If I have benefits available, how long will it take to get insurance approval and get surgery scheduled?
Once the requirements are met and records are gathered, we will submit this to your insurance company promptly. The length of time this takes depends on your insurance company and can take 4 to 6 weeks in some cases.
Can I do anything to speed the process along?
Yes! After your letter is received and put into the insurance company's system, it is extremely helpful for you call your insurance company on a regular basis to inquire about your Letter of Predetermination.
What do I ask when I call my insurance company?
- Tell the customer service representative that you are inquiring about the Letter of Predetermination sent by Dr. Felts office for the Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding.
- Ask them how long their predetermination process takes.
- Call often! Our patients that call on a regular basis usually get their answer quicker than the patients that don't call at all.
How will I know if I am approved or denied?
Your insurance company will send you a letter by mail. You will usually receive your letter before our office does.
If I am approved for the Lap Band surgery, what happens next?
Once we receive verification of approval from your insurance company, we will call you to schedule surgery.
Do I have other options if my insurance does not cover or denies the LAP-BAND procedure?
Yes, we have several cash finance options available. Our office staff will guide you through this process if it is determined that your insurance will not cover LAP-BAND.
