I have a family history of obesity and medical problems, but always thought I would escape "the curse". But I saw that every year at my physical examination, I would gain anywhere from 20-30 pounds from the year before. I was pretty active, but one thing was that I was always hungry. My stomach was like a bottomless pit, and I could never get enough. After reaching nearly 300 pounds, I looked in the mirror and decided enough was enough. I mean I've always thought of myself as a pretty girl, but 5'7", weighing 280, and wearing size 22-24 at age 24 was not my idea of living the good life.
I researched the Lap-Band procedure and thought it was a safe, slow and steady way to regain control of my weight and subsequently my life. I attended a seminar with Dr. Frank Felts in March of 2008, and after meeting him and his staff and listening to his explanations of the procedure and lifestyle, I knew the surgery was for me. I completed all of my pre-surgery tests, and was cleared. That was one of the happiest moments because I knew I was on my way to a new beginning.
During the pre-surgery diet, I lost 10 pounds. Boy did that feel great!! I knew that it was only a matter of time before I would be losing 10 more, and 10 more, and 10 more…
My surgery was on May 23, 2008. Some would argue that I took the easy way out of morbid obesity, but that was far from the case.
I learned a new way to eat, a new way to balance my meals, and stayed full while doing it. I wasn't hungry, didn't suffer headaches from "starving myself" but instead learned the difference between satiety and head hunger. Each month, I lost a little more weight, and my clothes felt like they were growing. I also resumed with my gym membership which helped to boost my weight loss even more. I paid very close attention to Dr. Felts' instructions and recommendations, including regular fills to maintain my progress.
Today, I am 199 pounds and have lost about 80 pounds! I am still about 30 pounds away from my goal, but I feel wonderful! I now wear clothing sized 12-14 and even my shoes, necklaces, watches, and rings all fit better! Everyone comments on how beautiful I look, and more importantly about how HEALTHY I look. I love how I did not lose a large amount of weight all at once! It has been steady and healthy, and I don't have any problems with loose skin or excessive scarring. My incisions healed beautifully, and I actually like the way they look. I feel comfortable in a swim suit. I can shop in the Misses section of stores instead of always making a beeline for the Plus Sized section. I find myself still looking at the Plus Sized clothing and trying it on, only to see that it hangs off of me!
I am so thankful to Dr. Felts and his staff for being so supportive, so positive, and such experts in the procedure. This has changed my life for the better, and I can't wait to show up to his office when I reach my goal. I could never have done it alone.
Hello Lamonica,
Your story sounds alot like my story. I had been praying, fasting and waiting on God for an answer concerning my weight...... I saw the ad on t.v. for lapband and it was an answe from Heaven. I had my surgery on August 6, 2009 and I have seen wonderful results, thus far.... I am grateful for the opportunity to experience such a wonderful thing. Stay encouraged and I can not "WAIT" to see what the end will be....

Hi Lamonica,
Iam on my way to sharing the same story. I went to Dr. Felts office and was to have my surgery on August 28th. I recieved some bad news I was dignosed with type 2 dibeates. I have since got my sugar level undercontrol and will have my procedure done on Tuesday. I also look forward to not having to wear plus size clothing. Hope that I get to meet u in one of the support classes. Keep up the good work.

Hi Lamonica,
I am also a patient of Dr. Felts. I have lost 82lbs and although I felt successful for awhile I am feeling like a failure as of late. I have been stuck at just under 200 (199 to as low as 193) for more than 6 months. I totally know why but am struggling to stop EATING COOKIES. Lapband has taken me as far as it can and now I just don't know how to get myself to finish the race. Really looking for inspiration on these final miles.
