Known for his compassion with his patients, Dr. Frank Felts, F.A.C.S., was raised in Houston, Texas. He graduated with top honors from Texas A&M University and at the top of his class at Texas A&M College of Medicine. He completed his residency training at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas, serving as Chief Surgical Resident.
Dr. Frank Felts began a very successful general surgery practice in 1988 in Jacksonville, Texas and continued that practice for 18 years. He gained exceptional experience in laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery. He was the first surgeon in Jacksonville and surrounding areas to perform advanced laparoscopic procedures, including advanced laparoscopic hernia, gastric and colon surgeries. He has performed over 6000 advanced laparoscopic procedures.
Since early in his career, Dr. Felts has had an interest in the surgical treatment of obesity. In 2006, he had an opportunity to transition his surgical practice exclusively to Bariatric Surgery. It is a move he has totally embraced and thoroughly enjoys. Currently, Dr. Felts performs surgery at the Surgery Center of Craig Ranch, Baylor Hospital in Carrollton, and Forest Park Medical Center in Dallas.
Dr. Frank Felts is certified by the American Board of Surgery as a general surgeon. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Karla has worked in the bariatric field for seven years. She started one of the first outpatient bariatric centers in the Dallas area and was able to obtain a Care Of Excellence status for the facility. Karla has been an R.N. for 20 years, many of which were in the OR during bariatric surgery. She plays a large part in our practice and enjoys working directly with Dr. Felts’ patients.
Miriam has been the medical assistant and scheduler for Dr. Felts since September 2008. Prior to this, Miriam was employed as a medical assistant for a family practice physician. Patients will speak with Miriam to schedule surgery and will see her each time they come to our office for an appointment.
Tomi has been with Dr. Felts since July, 2011 and is currently working as our Front Office Manager. If you have any concerns or questions regarding office policies and procedures or you just want to express how your visit went, she is the one for you. New to the bariatric family, Tomi never meets a stranger in our office. She strives to insure every patient is treated like family. Prior to joining our great team, Tomi and her 2 children lived in North Carolina, where she worked in the dental field. We are fortunate to have such an outgoing and welcoming personality on our team.
Passionate about the field of psychology, Mimosa is currently pursuing a degree in Child Psychology and Family Counseling. verifies insurance benefits and obtains prior authorizations for surgery while answering any and all questions our patients have regarding insurance coverage. Mimosa also assists patients with financing options.
As well as being our weight loss support specialist, DeLese is also a patient of Dr. Felts. After struggling with her weight for years, she began consulting with various bariatric doctors, but never felt that she was being treated as an individual. After months of waiting, DeLese had a consultation with Dr. Felts and knew she had finally found the doctor who was dedicated to helping our nation’s weight crisis and really cared for his patients on a personal level. After having the laparoscopic band procedure in December 2008, DeLese’s life took on new meaning. A year after her surgery, she joined Dr. Felts’ office team as our weight loss support specialist. DeLese has run four Half Marathons, One Marathon and has taken part in Susan G Komen 3Day 60mile Walk for the cure. Patients will feel DeLese’s passion for helping overweight individuals regain their lives the moment they meet her.
